paws from paradise

Paws from Paradise is St. Croix's only animal air transport program.  Paws from Paradise, formally "Pets from Paradise" was started by the St. Croix Animal Welfare Center close to 20 years ago!  About a year ago, Healing Paws offered to run and fund the program as to allow the AWC to use those funds for other programs such as low cost spay/neuter.  Paws from Paradise now incorporates local community rescues needing a chance at a stateside home, while still honoring the long history of this program with the AWC.
Paws from paradise has a network of other rescue organizations stateside who accept our loving Crucian critters. Many of these organizations are based in areas whose spay/neuter efforts have worked, and they are now lacking many of the dogs and cats we still have plenty of on island.  These wonderful partner organizations accept our homeless pets and find them loving homes stateside.
Unfortunately, pets can't travel by themselves.  Paws from Paradise relies on travelers leaving St. Croix to escort a pet with them.  Its a fun and great way to save a life!  Paws from Paradise will handle all of the coordination and paperwork.  A Paws from Paradise volunteer will meet the traveler prior to departure at the airport, wait with them through the check in process and walk them through everything they need to know.  When they arrive at their final destination city, a volunteer from our Partner Rescue will be there waiting to take the pet from the traveler. Its that easy!

Donation

The cost varies from $100 to $200 per animal.  The Program covers that cost plus the cost of the crate/carrier, and other supplies needed to travel.  It is Healing Paws' largest expenditure, by far.  We rely on individuals to sponsor flights, and/or donate supplies.
Please consider making a donation to sponsor a trip, or donate an item off our amazon wish list!  You can also adopt one of our special Crucian pets from our Partner Rescues.  If not, how about becoming a short term foster parent?
